Pieter Coene

I’ve been a singer for a long time now. I was just seven when I went at noon to the big school to sing Gregorian chant. From then on things went downhill! Other children played football, I went to choir practice. Singing was never the only thing in my life. There was fashion too. I was already fascinated as a boy, even when I didn’t quite realise it. Colours, fabrics, shapes… I followed courses, many years ago. Later on there were costumes for the theatre, the opera, dance companies. Meanwhile I became a teacher, but always kept on singing. Much Bach, Monteverdi and other musical greats. Principally with Collegium Vocale, for many years; with Blend, a close harmony group as relaxation, and now for several years Gregorian chant once more with Psallentes. The music, commitment, honesty, friendship, just because it’s right; singing is always fun. Perhaps I’ve come full circle?
